PCMCIA, also known as the "Personal Computer Memory Card International Association", is an international authoritative and trade association with member companies exceeding well over 100. It was established in 1989 to initiate standards for the integrated circuit cards and to facilitate interchangeability amongst portable computers where the need for sturdy, limited power usage, and compact design are important factors.
PCMCIA’s enhanced specifications allow for compatibility and super speeds in a variety of applications such as MPEG video and Ethernet. PCMCIA publicizes the interoperability of PC Cards for portable computers but also for assortment of products such as cable TV, digital cameras, automobiles and set-top boxes.
Today’s most developed product from PCMCIA is the ExpressCard standard which is for hot swappable systems and modules that radically refines the I/O performance of the notebook (laptop) and desktop computers by reinforcing the PCI Express and USB 2.0 standard. I have a Sprint, Novatel EX720, and I can now use it on my old pre-express card laptop. I have tried it on more than one plaptop and have not had any problems.

This product is easy to install and… works in my PC, which is an older model IBM laptop that I use for back up. …this product plugs into the PCMCIA slot and comes with a CD with a driver on it, and it installed right away. It doesn't require an external power source nor does it have to plug into anything else. I'm happy with it.

Snaps in crisply and makes reliable connections, both with the PC's bus and with the USB 2.0 devices. Works perfectly, so I am delighted with this one. With my system, it required no software loading, but the drivers are included with it on a disk, in case you need them.
